Inspirational Quotes by Lee Iacocca (American Businessperson)

Lido “Lee” Anthony Iacocca (1924–2019) was an American automotive industry executive. He was president of Ford Motor Company 1970–78, where he led the development of the Ford Mustang and the Ford Pinto cars. After being expelled from Ford, Iacocca led the floundering Chrysler Corporation 1978–92. He was one of the first celebrity U.S. chief executives.

Born a son of Italian immigrants in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Iacocca attended Lehigh University and began his career at the Ford Motor Company in 1946. He helped create the Ford Mustang and sold a record 418,812 Mustangs during the first year. He became president of Ford in 1970, before being dismissed by Henry Ford II in 1978.

As chief executive officer of Chrysler, Iacocca helped rescue that corporation from bankruptcy in the early ’80s by obtaining the most substantial amount of federal financial assistance ever given to a private corporation at that time. Iacocca closed factories, championed fuel-efficient cars, and persuaded labor unions to undertake layoffs and wage cuts. He rekindled sales and became the manufacturer’s face in a series of “New Chrysler” print and TV commercials. He starred in Chrysler’s television ads, each of which concluded with him gazing sincerely into the camera and proclaiming, “If you can find a better car, buy it.”

Iacocca was a passionate advocate of American capitalism. As a crusader for American business exports during the 1980s, he lobbied for a timely intervention against Japanese imports. He even explored running for president, and his autobiography, Iacocca (1986,) became one of the best-selling books of the decade.
