Inspirational Quotes by John Fairchild (American Publisher)

John Burr Fairchild (1927–2015) was the publisher and editor-in-chief of Women’s Wear Daily (WWD) 1960–96 and the founding editor of W magazine in 1972.

Born in Newark, New Jersey, Fairchild’s father worked for WWD. His grandfather was the founder of Fairchild Publications, which published WWD. After attending Princeton, Fairchild became the European bureau chief of Fairchild Publications in 1955, the publisher of WWD in 1960, and the founder of W in 1972.

Fairchild wrote a column for the back page of W under the pseudonym Countess Louise J. Esterhazy. Under his leadership, WWD transformed from a negligible trade journal into an influential and controversial fashion publication known as the “bible of fashion.”

Fairchild’s works were Chic Savages (1989,) The Fashionable Savages (1965,) and The Moonflower Couple (1967.)
