Inspirational Quotes by Joni Mitchell (Canadian Singer, Songwriter)

Joni Mitchell (b.1943,) originally Roberta Joan Anderson, is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Starting to record in 1968, she gradually moved from folk to a fusion of folk, jazz, and rock.

Born in Fort McLeod, Alberta, Mitchell studied art in Calgary for a short time and then turned to folk music as a teenager. A short-lived marriage to folk singer Chuck Mitchell in 1965 took her to Detroit and New York City, where she made her first album, Song of a Seagull (1967.) Her original songs established her as an essential link between folk and pop, and she produced several highly regarded and confessional albums.

Mitchell’s music became progressively more complex and jazz-influenced on later recordings like The Hissing of Summer Lawns (1975,) culminating in Mingus (1979.) Her notable albums include Blue (1971,) Hejira (1976,) and Dog Eat Dog (1986.) She continued to produce sharp pop music but also dedicated her creative energy to painting.

Mitchell restarted touring after a twelve-year interruption in 1994 for her Turbulent Indigo album. In 1997, she was reunited with a daughter she had given up for adoption in 1965. Following Travelogue (2002,) a rework of old songs, she announced her disaffection with the record industry and retired. She received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in 2002.
