Inspirational Quotes by LaVell Edwards (American Football Coach)

LaVell Edwards (1930–2016) was an American college football coach. This head coach for Brigham Young University (BYU) had 257 career victories 1972–2000. He ranked as one of the most successful college football coaches of all time.

Born in Orem, Utah, Edwards attended Utah State University, where he played on the offensive line 1949–51. He later obtained a master’s degree from the University of Utah and a PhD during his coaching tenure from BYU.

Edwards’s coaching career began at Granite High School in Salt Lake County, Utah, in 1954. he transferred to BYU as an assistant coach in 1962 and became the head coach ten years later. During his tenure, BYU had 27-straight non-losing seasons, 22 bowl appearances, and 20 league titles.

Edwards led BYU to a national championship in 1984 and sent five players to the College Football Hall of Fame before his own enshrinement in 2004.

Edwards’s books include Building a Winning Football Tradition at Brigham Young University (1980,) Winning Football With the Forward Pass (1984,) Achieving: A Guide To Building Self-Esteem in Young Men (1985,) and LaVell: Airing It Out (2000.)
