Ralph Archbold (1942–2017) was an American actor and speaker. He is famous as the long-time impersonator of Founding Father Benjamin Franklin.
Born on Franklin’s birthday in Dearborn, Michigan, Archbold began impersonating Franklin in 1973 for a local summer production. He read over 200 of Franklin’s works and commenced performing at schools full-time.
In 1981, Archbold moved to Philadelphia to advance his enactment in Franklin’s home city, eventually becoming the world’s most famous Franklin impersonator.
Archbold gave frequent speeches for company meetings and appeared on television in character. He would often sit on a park bench in Franklin Court near Franklin’s historical home in Philadelphia.
