Inspirational Quotes by Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (German Baritone)

Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (1925–2012,) born Albert Dietrich Fischer, was a German lyric baritone and conductor of classical music. He was celebrated for his interpretations of the German Lieder (art song,) primarily composer Franz Schubert’s song cycles.

Born in Berlin, Germany, Fischer-Dieskau briefly attended Berlin University of the Arts before serving in the German Infantry in 1943–45. He was a prisoner of war held by U.S. troops.

Returning to Berlin after the war, Fischer-Dieskau mainly performed in Berlin and at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. He dominated both the opera and concert platforms for more than thirty years and earned accolades for his lyrical voice, versatility of repertory, and commanding presence. He came to be regarded by many as the most outstanding Lieder singer of the 20th century.

Fischer-Dieskau’s recordings of “Winterreise” with pianist Gerald Moore and Jörg Demus are top-rated.
