Inspirational Quotes by Florence Scovel Shinn (American Spiritual Writer)

Florence Scovell Shinn (1871–1940) was an American artist and book illustrator. Later in life, she was also a New Thought spiritual teacher and a metaphysical writer.

Born in Camden, New Jersey, Shinn attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. She worked as an illustrator, working for Harper’s and other magazines and popular novels such as Alice Hegan Rice’s Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch (1901.)

In the 1920s, Shinn turned to New Thought. She became a spiritual teacher stressing the power of positive thought and verbal affirmation.

Shinn wrote three books on metaphysics: The Game of Life and How to Play It (1925,) Your Word is Your Wand (1928,) and The Secret Door to Success (1940.) The Power of the Spoken Word (1945) and The Magic Path of Intuition (2013) were published posthumously.
