Brigitte Bardot (b.1934) is a French actress who starred in 47 films. She was one of the most iconic faces, models, and actors of the ’50s and ’60s.

Born in Paris, Bardot was discovered by a magazine editor as a teenager. After a promising initial career as a ballerina and a model, Bardot turned to film and made her screen début in Le Trou Normand (1952; Crazy for Love) at the age of 18.

The cult film Et Dieu … Crea La Femme (1956; And God Created Woman,) directed by her first husband Roger Vadim launched Bardot’s reputation as an international sex symbol. Her love of music led to several records in the ’60s and ’70s.

Bardot announced her retirement just before she turned 40 and has since devoted her energies to campaign for animal rights and the cause of endangered animal species.
