Inspirational Quotes by Dan Rather (American Newscaster)

Dan Rather (b.1931,) in full Daniel Irvin Rather, is an American broadcaster and journalist who covered some of the most important historical events of his time during his four decades with CBS.

Born in Wharton, Texas, Rather studied journalism and law before beginning his career with United Press International and the Houston Chronicle. He joined CBS in 1962, becoming a White House correspondent in 1964. In 1965–66, he was posted to London, then Vietnam, before returning to Washington, D.C.

Rather became an anchor for CBS Reports in 1974 and co-editor of 60 Minutes in 1975. From 1977, he anchored his radio show, and from 1981, he was anchor and managing editor of CBS News, which topped the ratings in the early 1980s. Rather left CBS in 2005. In 2006, he signed a news-broadcasting contract with the digital network HDNet.

Rather’s memoirs are The Camera Never Blinks: Adventures of a TV Journalist (1977,) I Remember (1991,) The Camera Never Blinks Twice: The Further Adventures of a Television Journalist (1994,) and Rather Outspoken: My Life in the News (2012.) His other works included The Palace Guard (1974; about the Watergate scandal,) The American Dream: Stories from the Heart of Our Nation (2001,) and What Unites Us: Reflections on Patriotism (2017.)

Northwestern University’s Alan Weisman wrote the biography Lone Star: The Extraordinary Life and Times of Dan Rather (2006.)
