Steven Allan Spielberg (b.1946) is one of the most popular directors and producers in film history.

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio, Spielberg started making amateur films at the age of ten. His parents had a tough marriage; he often got away from home to make amateurish films with his father’s camera. He made two films about World War II, and a movie about a UFO invasion, starring his sisters as victims.

Spielberg is celebrated for such science fiction and adventure films such as Jaws (1975,) E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982,) Jurassic Park (1993,) Saving Private Ryan (1998,) and A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001) that broke box-office records. Schindler’s List (1993) won seven Academy Awards.
