Inspirational Quotes by Jimmy Hoffa (American Labor Leader)

Jimmy Hoffa (1913–75,) fully James Riddle Hoffa, was an American trade union leader. He was the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters 1957–71. He was one of the most divisive labor organizers of his time.

Born in Brazil, Indiana, Hoffa joined the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen, and Helpers of America (the Teamsters’ Union) in 1931. He reorganized it, strengthening central control, and was elected president in 1957. In the same year, the Teamsters were disqualified from the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) for disavowing its ethics code.

Hoffa negotiated the Teamsters’ first national contract in 1964. However, he was imprisoned in 1967–71 for attempted bribery of a federal court judge, fraud, and looting pension funds. He disappeared in 1975 and is supposed to have been murdered.
