Inspirational Quotes by Joyce Maynard (American Novelist)

Daphne Joyce Maynard (b.1953) is an American novelist and journalist known for her diverse literary works spanning fiction, young adult fiction, and true crime.

Born in Durham, New Hampshire, Maynard began writing in her teens, contributing regularly to Seventeen. From 1973 to 1975, she provided commentaries for the CBS Radio series Spectrum before joining The New York Times in 1975 as a general assignment reporter and feature writer. From 1984 to 1990, she wrote the syndicated column “Domestic Affairs,” which focused on marriage, parenthood, and family life.

She published her first novel, Baby Love (1981,) followed by To Die For (1992,) inspired by the Pamela Smart murder case and later adapted into a 1995 film. Her young adult fiction includes The Usual Rules (2003) and The Cloud Chamber (2005,) while her true crime book Internal Combustion (2006) examines the Nancy Seaman murder case. Her novel Labor Day (2009) was adapted into a 2013 film.

Her later works include The Good Daughters (2010,) After Her (2013,) Under the Influence (2016,) Count the Ways (2021,) The Bird Hotel (2023,) and How the Light Gets In (2024,) a sequel to Count the Ways. She also recorded an audio version of her memoir Looking Back (1973) in 2023.
