Inspirational Quotes by Eve Ensler (American Playwright)

Eve Ensler (b.1953) is an American playwright, author, performer, and activist best known for The Vagina Monologues (1996,) which sparked global conversations on women’s rights, sexuality, and violence against women.

Born in New York City, she studied at Middlebury College, graduating in 1975. She began her theater career writing and performing plays addressing social justice issues. The Vagina Monologues, translated into 48 languages and performed in over 140 countries, led to V-Day, a global movement to end violence against women and girls. Beyond writing, Ensler founded One Billion Rising, the largest mass action campaign against gender-based violence, and co-founded City of Joy, a leadership center for Congolese women survivors.

Her literary works include I Am an Emotional Creature (2010,) exploring young women’s voices; In the Body of the World (2013,) a memoir on illness and activism; and The Apology (2019,) confronting her personal history of abuse. Her latest book, Reckoning (2023,) reflects on forty years of activism and storytelling.
