Inspirational Quotes by Emanuel Geibel (German Poet)

Emanuel von Geibel (1815–84) was a German poet and playwright known for lyrical poetry and translations of classical and romantic works. Celebrated in 19th-century Germany, he was invited to Munich in 1851 as an honorary professor, becoming a central figure in Die Krokodile literary circle.

Born in Lübeck, Germany, Geibel, son of a pastor, initially pursued theology. He later studied classical and romance philology at the University of Bonn and the University of Berlin but chose poetry. In 1838, he took a tutoring position in Athens, gaining exposure to Greek literature. Upon returning to Germany, he published Zeitstimmen (1841,) establishing his reputation.

Geibel’s works include König Roderich (1843,) a tragedy, and König Sigurds Brautfahrt (1846,) an epic. His lyric collections, Juniuslieder (1848) and Neue Gedichte (1857,) reflected his evolving style. He collaborated with Paul Heyse on Spanisches Liederbuch (1852,) translating Spanish poetry. His later works, Brunhild (1858) and Sophonisbe (1869,) showcased his dramatic talents.
