Larry Dossey (b.1940) is an American physician, author, and advocate of integrative medicine, known for his work on mind-body healing and spirituality in healthcare. His writings explore consciousness, medicine, and holistic healing, influencing modern alternative therapies.
Born in Groesbeck, Texas, he earned an M.D. from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (1967.) He served as a battalion surgeon in Vietnam, receiving decorations for valor. After returning to the U.S., he became Chief of Staff at Medical City Dallas Hospital (1982,) where unexplained medical recoveries led him to explore non-traditional healing. His work has drawn both praise and skepticism, with critics questioning its scientific basis.
Dossey introduced “nonlocal mind,” suggesting consciousness extends beyond the brain and body, influencing health.
