Inspirational Quotes by Wassily Kandinsky (Russian Painter)

Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944,) fully Vasily Vasilyevich Kandinsky, was a Russian painter and art theorist, widely regarded as a pioneer of abstract art. His work explored the spiritual and emotional power of color and form, shaping modern art movements.

Born in Moscow, he studied law and economics at the University of Moscow but later enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich (1896) to pursue art. He co-founded Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) in 1911, an influential group promoting expressionism and abstraction.

Kandinsky’s key writings include Concerning the Spiritual in Art (1911,) outlining his theories on color and abstraction; Point and Line to Plane (1926,) exploring geometric composition; and On the Spiritual Element in Art (1912.) His paintings, such as Composition VII (1913,) Yellow-Red-Blue (1925,) and Dominant Curve (1936,) showcase his bold use of color and dynamic forms.

He taught at Bauhaus School (1922–33) before moving to France, where he refined his biomorphic abstraction. His later works, such as Composition X (1939,) reflect his evolving artistic philosophy.
