Inspirational Quotes by Roy Blount, Jr. (American Humorist)

Roy Blount Jr. (b.1941) is an American writer, humorist, journalist, and speaker known for his witty commentary on language, culture, and Southern life. His work spans sports, humor, and literary criticism.

Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, he grew up in Decatur, Georgia. He studied journalism at Vanderbilt University, graduating magna cum laude, and later earned a master’s from Harvard University. He began as a reporter for the Atlanta Journal before joining Sports Illustrated (1968–75) as a staff writer. His sports and Southern culture coverage shaped his distinctive style. Blount has been a regular panelist on NPR’s Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! and a contributor to The Atlantic Monthly.

Blount has authored numerous books, including About Three Bricks Shy of a Load (1974,) a humorous take on the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Crackers (1980) on Southern identity. His linguistic explorations appear in Alphabet Juice (2008) and Alphabetter Juice (2011.)
