Inspirational Quotes by Friedrich Wilhelm Krummacher (German Theologian)

Friedrich Wilhelm Krummacher (1796–1868) was a German Reformed theologian and preacher known for his eloquent sermons and influential religious writings. His works emphasized evangelical themes and shaped 19th-century Protestant thought.

Born in Moers, France (now Germany,) Krummacher was the son of theologian Friedrich Adolf Krummacher and nephew of Gottfried Daniel Krummacher. He studied theology at Halle and Jena, later serving as a pastor in Frankfurt am Main (1819,) Ruhrort (1823,) Gemarke (1825,) and Elberfeld (1834.)

In 1843, he traveled to the United States, declining a theological professorship in Pennsylvania before returning to Germany. He settled in Berlin, was appointed to Trinity Church (1847,) and became court chaplain in Potsdam (1853.) His sermons on Elijah inspired Felix Mendelssohn’s oratorio Elijah (1846.)

Krummacher’s notable works include Elijah the Tishbite (1838,) The Martyr Lamb (1849,) The Last Days of Elisha (1852,) The Suffering Saviour (1870,) David, der König von Israel (1870,) and his autobiography Selbstbiographie (1869.)
