Inspirational Quotes by The Statler Brothers (American Gospel Group)

The Statler Brothers were an American country, gospel, and vocal group known for rich harmonies and storytelling lyrics. Formed in 1955 in Staunton, Virginia, they began with Southern gospel before shifting to country music.

The group included Don Reid (lead vocals,) Harold Reid (bass,) Phil Balsley (baritone,) and Lew DeWitt (tenor.) In 1964, they became Johnny Cash’s opening act and backup singers, gaining national recognition. Their breakthrough hit, Flowers on the Wall (1965,) written by DeWitt, won a Grammy Award.

During the 1970s and 1980s, they released successful albums, including Bed of Rose’s (1970,) The Best of the Statler Brothers (1975,) and Atlanta Blue (1984.) Their nostalgic storytelling was showcased in The Class of ’57 (1972,) a fan favorite.

In 1993, they launched The Statler Brothers Show on TNN, running for seven years. Retiring in 2002, they left a lasting legacy in country and gospel music.

Don Reid authored books about their career, including The Statler Brothers: Random Memories (2008) and Songs and Stories from the Statler Brothers (2017.)
