Flower A. Newhouse (1909–94,) born Mildred “Mimi” Arlene Sechler, was an American Christian mystic and spiritual teacher known for her esoteric teachings on angels, enlightenment, and divine consciousness. She founded Questhaven Retreat and the Christward Ministry, shaping a distinct approach to Christian mysticism.
Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Newhouse claimed clairvoyant abilities from age six. In 1924, she moved to Los Angeles and began lecturing on spirituality. Gaining national recognition, she traveled across the U.S. and Canada to share insights on mysticism and angelic presence. In 1940, she and her husband, Lawrence Newhouse, founded Questhaven Retreat, a spiritual center in San Diego County, California, dedicated to Christian mysticism and nature preservation.
Newhouse’s teachings emphasized divine union, reverence, and enlightenment, inspiring generations of seekers. She authored numerous books, including The Armor of the Spiritual Life (1948,) The Christward Way (1948,) Disciplines of the Holy Quest (1959,) Gateways into Light (1974,) Kingdom of the Shining Ones (1955,) and Rediscovering the Angels and Natives of Eternity (1979,) focusing on spiritual growth, inner perception, and direct experience of God.
