Justin Cronin (b.1962) is an American novelist known for literary fiction and post-apocalyptic thrillers. His work blends deep character exploration with gripping narratives, earning critical and commercial success.
Raised in New England, Cronin attended Harvard University and completed an MFA at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He began in literary fiction, winning the PEN/Hemingway Award and Stephen Crane Prize for Mary and O’Neil (2001,) a poignant novel on love and loss. His next book, The Summer Guest (2004,) continued his focus on intimate storytelling.
Cronin gained recognition with The Passage (2010,) the first in his post-apocalyptic vampire trilogy, followed by The Twelve (2012) and The City of Mirrors (2016.) Praised for epic scope and emotional depth, the trilogy was adapted into a television series. His latest novel, The Ferryman (2023,) explores identity and survival in a dystopian setting.
