M. Russell Ballard (1928–2023,) born Melvin Russell Ballard Jr., was an American businessman and religious leader who served as Acting President of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2018 until his passing. His leadership and teachings shaped generations of Latter-day Saints.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, Ballard attended the University of Utah before pursuing a career in automotive, real estate, and investment industries. He later transitioned to full-time church service, leading the Canada Toronto Mission (1974–76) before joining the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976. In 1985, he was sustained as a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, serving for nearly four decades.

A prolific speaker and writer, Ballard focused on missionary work, faith, and leadership. His notable publications include Our Search for Happiness (1993,) Counseling with Our Councils (1997,) Suited for Service (2004,) and A Marvelous Work and a Wonder (2007.)
