Jack William Hayford (1934–2023) was an influential American charismatic pastor, author, and hymnwriter. He played a pivotal role in shaping the modern Pentecostal and charismatic movements.

Born in Los Angeles, Hayford overcame polio during his childhood, interpreting his healing as a divine calling to become a pastor. Ordained in 1956 by the International Church of the Foursquare Gospel, he quickly rose to prominence. In 1976, Hayford assumed the presidency at Christ College, now The King’s University-Los Angeles. His significant contributions to theological education were marked by a dedication to both academic excellence and spiritual formation.

As the founding pastor of The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, California, Hayford led the congregation for over three decades. Under his guidance, the church experienced substantial growth, emerging as a central hub for charismatic worship and teaching.

Hayford’s hymnwriting legacy includes the globally embraced worship anthem ‘Majesty.’ His extensive writing career encompasses over 50 books covering topics ranging from theology to practical Christian living. Notable works include Pastor’s Handbook (1978,) Rebuilding the Real You: The Definitive Guide to the Holy Spirit’s Work in Your Life (1985,) and The Anatomy of the Soul: Surprising Connections between Neuroscience and Spiritual Practices (2010.)
