Ulpian Fulwell (1545–86) was an English playwright and translator who contributed significantly to the English Renaissance literary scene. His writings reveal a deep engagement with moral philosophy and human behavior, characteristic of the Elizabethan moralists.
Born in Wells, Somerset, during the vibrant cultural and literary period of the Elizabethan era, Fulwell is best known for his moralistic play The Art of Flattery (1576.) This work explores themes of deceit and virtue, reflecting the moral concerns of his time. It contributed to the tradition of Elizabethan drama that sought to entertain while imparting moral lessons to the audience.
In addition to his plays, Fulwell translated several works from Italian into English. Among his translations is The Flower of Friendship, published in 1578, showcasing his interest in bringing continental literature to an English-speaking audience.
