Thomas Brooks (1608–80) was an English Puritan preacher and author, celebrated for his spiritually rich and practical writings. Known for his vivid language and deep scriptural insight, he inspired personal growth and holiness.

Born in Suffolk, England, Brooks studied at Emmanuel College-Cambridge. Ordained in the Church of England, he served as a chaplain for parliamentary forces during the English Civil War and later as a pastor in London. Following the Act of Uniformity in 1662, he was ejected for refusing to conform to the Anglican Church but continued preaching and writing, becoming a prominent figure among nonconformists.

His most famous work Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices (1652) offers guidance on resisting temptation. Other significant works include Heaven on Earth (1654,) which reassures readers of salvation; Mute Christian Under the Smarting Rod (1659,) on enduring suffering; and The Crown and Glory of Christianity (1662,) a study of Christian virtue. Brooks’s writings remain valued for their deep spiritual insight and practical advice for believers.
