Inspirational Quotes by Harry Bates Thayer (American Business Executive)

Harry Bates Thayer (1858–1936) was an American electrical and telephone businessman. He was an executive at AT&T, where he served as vice president and then board chairman, overseeing significant company growth and innovation.

Born in Northfield, Vermont, Thayer spent two years at Norwich University (the Military College of Vermont) before transferring to Dartmouth College, where he graduated in 1879. He began his career as a shipping clerk at Western Electric Company, eventually rising to president. In 1919, he joined AT&T (American Telephone & Telegraph) as vice president.

Under Thayer’s leadership, AT&T thrived as a regulated monopoly, expanded into radio broadcasting, and established Bell Labs. In 1925, Thayer stepped down as president to become board chairman at AT&T, a position he held until his resignation in 1928.
