Daniel Sheldon Greenberg (1931–2020) was an American journalist, editor, and author who revolutionized science reporting by applying journalistic scrutiny rather than reverence to research. His work reshaped science journalism, emphasizing transparency in research funding and the intersection of science and politics.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, Greenberg graduated from Columbia University (1953) and served in the U.S. Navy before starting his journalism career.

He worked as a reporter for the Wilmington Journal-Every Evening and The Washington Post, later earning a Congressional Fellowship from the American Political Science Association (1961.) He joined Science, the journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, becoming its first news editor and later European correspondent (1968–70.)

From 1972 to 2003, GreenbeThe New England Journal of Medicinerg wrote a syndicated column for The Washington Post and other newspapers. He contributed to New Scientist, The Saturday Review, and MIT Technology Review, and wrote a Washington column for (1974–80) and The Lancet (1993–2002.)

In 1971, he founded Science & Government Report, editing it until 1997. His books include The Politics of Pure Science (1968,) examining science and politics, and Science, Money, and Politics: Political Triumph and Ethical Erosion (2001,) critiquing scientific funding ethics.
