Inspirational Quotes by Young E. Allison (American Poet)

Young Ewing Allison (1853–1932) was an American writer, editor, and poet known for his contributions to journalism, literature, and historical research. His work spanned newspaper editing, poetry, and opera librettos.

Born in Henderson, Kentucky, he became partially deaf early, developing a voracious reading habit. By 15, he was editing Henderson News. In 1880, he joined Louisville Courier-Journal as city editor, later founding The Insurance Field (1887,) a trade journal he edited until 1926. His research helped preserve Federal Hill, the mansion said to have inspired Stephen Foster’s My Old Kentucky Home.

Allison is best remembered for The Derelict (1890,) completing Robert Louis Stevenson’s verse fragment from Treasure Island. He also wrote the libretto for The Ogallallas (1890,) the first American-Indian opera. His works include On the Vice of Novel-Reading (1897,) Delicious Vice (1907–09,) City of Louisville and a Glimpse of Kentucky (1887,) and Curious Legend of Louis Philippe in Kentucky (1924.)
