William Joseph Johnston (1924–2010) was an American novelist known for his television tie-in novels, adapting popular series into books. His prolific career spanned over 100 works, making him a key figure in media-related fiction.

Born in Lincoln, Illinois, he served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps (1942–45) during World War II as a radio operator and gunner in the Pacific. Afterward, he pursued a media career as a disc jockey, news reporter, and press agent before becoming a full-time writer in 1960.

Johnston specialized in adapting television series into novels, including The Munsters, Bewitched, The Flying Nun, Get Smart, The Brady Bunch, Nanny and the Professor, Room 222, Happy Days, and Welcome Back, Kotter.
