Inspirational Quotes by William Fitzjames Oldham (Indian Bishop)

William Fitzjames Oldham (1854–1937) was a British-American Methodist bishop, missionary, and author, known for his contributions to Christian education and missionary work in South Asia. He founded Anglo-Chinese School in Singapore (1886,) a cornerstone of Methodist education in Southeast Asia.

Born in Bangalore, India, to an Anglo-Irish family, Oldham was influenced by Protestant teachings despite being baptized Roman Catholic. He studied at Boston University (B.A.) and Allegheny College (M.A.,) later working as a government surveyor before committing to missionary service.

Oldham expanded Methodist missions across India, Southeast Asia, and South America. Elected missionary bishop for India and Southeast Asia (1904,) he oversaw Methodist schools and churches. His leadership extended to South America (1916–28,) promoting educational and social ministries.

Notable works include Thoburn Called of God (1918,) a biography of Bishop James Thoburn, and India, Malaysia, and the Philippines: A Practical Study (1927,) examining missionary strategies and cultural adaptation.
