Inspirational Quotes by Viktor Suvorov (Russian Historian)

Viktor Suvorov (b.1947,) born Vladimir Bogdanovich Rezun, is a Russian historian, writer, and former Soviet military intelligence officer, known for his controversial theories on World War II and his 1978 defection to the United Kingdom.

Born in Barabash, Soviet Union, he attended the Suvorov Military School in Voronezh and later trained at the Kyiv Higher Combined Arms Command School. He served in the Soviet Army and GRU (military intelligence) before defecting to Britain, where he began writing on Soviet military operations.

His most famous book, Icebreaker: Who Started the Second World War? (1987,) argues that Stalin planned to invade Nazi Germany in 1941 but was preempted by Hitler’s invasion. Other notable works include The Liberators (1981,) Inside the Soviet Army (1982,) Aquarium (1985,) The Chief Culprit (2008,) and The Last Republic (1996.)

Suvorov’s theories have been widely criticized, particularly his claim that Stalin prepared for an offensive war. Russian and Western historians have labeled many of his arguments revisionist, sparking ongoing debates on Soviet military strategy and World War II historiography.
