Inspirational Quotes by Thomas N. Carruthers (American Christian Leader)

Thomas Neely Carruthers (1900–60) was an American priest and the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina 1944–60.

Born in Collierville, Tennessee, Carruthers pursued his education at Sewanee: The University of the South, earning a Bachelor of Arts (1921.) He furthered his studies at Princeton, obtaining a Master of Arts (1924.) Carruthers completed his theological education at the University of the South, graduating with a Bachelor of Divinity (1929,) and later receiving an honorary Doctor of Divinity (1940.)

Ordained as a deacon in 1925 and as a priest in 1926, Carruthers embarked on a notable pastoral journey. He served as the rector of St. Peter’s Church in Columbia, Tennessee, 1926–31, followed by leadership roles as the rector of Trinity Church in Houston, Texas, 1931–39. Later, he became the rector of Christ Church in Nashville, Tennessee, 1939–44. In 1944, Carruthers assumed the role of Bishop of South Carolina.
