Inspirational Quotes by Thomas Horder, 1st Baron Horder (British Physician)

Thomas Jeeves Horder, 1st Baron Horder (1871–1955,) was a British physician, known for his role as physician-in-ordinary to multiple monarchs and his influence on medical policy.

Born in Shaftesbury, England, he studied medicine at the University of London and trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. His diagnostic skills earned appointments as physician to Kings Edward VII, George V, and George VI, as well as extra physician to Queen Elizabeth II.

Horder was active in medical administration, serving on government committees during World War II, advising on food policy and healthcare reforms. He opposed aspects of Aneurin Bevan’s National Health Service plan, advocating modifications to protect medical professionals’ interests.

His publications include Health and Social Welfare (1943,) examining public health policies, and The Little Genius (1951,) a study on medical diagnostics. He chaired the Horder Committee for the Royal College of Nursing, publishing a report in 1949.

Horder was knighted in 1918, made a baronet in 1923, and elevated to the peerage as Baron Horder in 1933. He served as president of the British Eugenics Society (1935–49) and the Cremation Society of Great Britain.
