Tal Ben-Shahar (b.1970) is an Israeli-American author, lecturer, and expert in positive psychology and leadership, best known for his work on happiness studies and popular courses at Harvard University.
Born in Ramat Gan, Tel Aviv District, he earned a bachelor’s degree in philosophy and psychology from Harvard, later completing a PhD in organizational behavior. His research focuses on well-being, resilience, and personal development, blending academic insights with practical applications. He has lectured internationally, advising businesses, educators, and individuals on cultivating happiness and fulfillment.
His best-selling books include Happier: Learn the Secrets to Daily Joy and Lasting Fulfillment (2007,) Being Happy: You Don’t Have to Be Perfect to Lead a Richer, Happier Life (2010,) and Choose the Life You Want: 101 Ways to Create Your Own Road to Happiness (2012,) translated into multiple languages.
Beyond writing, Ben-Shahar co-founded the Happiness Studies Academy and Potentialife, promoting positive psychology in leadership and education. He also contributed to Israel Inside: How a Small Nation Makes a Big Difference (2012,) a documentary project.
