Suze Orman (b.1951,) fully Susan Lynn Orman, is an American financial advisor, author, and TV personality known for her direct approach to personal finance. She founded the Suze Orman Financial Group in 1987 and hosted The Suze Orman Show (2002–15) on CNBC.
Born in Chicago, she earned a B.A. in social work from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (1976.) A failed investment at Merrill Lynch led her to train as an account executive, learning financial risk firsthand. She later became vice president at Prudential Bache Securities before founding her firm. During this time, she wrote The Facts on Single Premium Whole Life, a free comparative booklet on life insurance.
Orman’s best-selling books include You’ve Earned It, Don’t Lose It (1994,) The 9 Steps to Financial Freedom (1997,) and Suze Orman’s Women & Money (and the Men Smart Enough to Listen) (2007,) promoting financial independence.
She has hosted PBS specials, appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and won two Emmy Awards and eight Gracie Awards. Currently, she hosts Suze Orman’s Women & Money Podcast, continuing to offer financial advice. Though some criticize her approach as rigid, she remains a widely recognized figure in personal finance.
