Stuart Stevens (b.1954) is an American political consultant, author, and media strategist known for his work on Republican presidential campaigns and later involvement in The Lincoln Project, opposing Donald Trump.
Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Stevens earned a B.A. in English from Colorado College (1974) and an M.A. from Middlebury College (1976.) He also studied at Pembroke College-Oxford, and UCLA Film School, blending interests in politics, writing, and media.
He worked on Republican campaigns for Bob Dole (1996,) George W. Bush (2000, 2004,) John McCain (2008,) and Mitt Romney (2012.) Later, he criticized the party, arguing it had abandoned its principles. Stevens also wrote for television, contributing to Northern Exposure and Commander in Chief.
His books include The Big Enchilada (2000,) a behind-the-scenes look at Bush’s 2000 campaign; It Was All a Lie (2020,) critiquing the party’s transformation; The Innocent Have Nothing to Fear (2016,) a political satire; and Night Train to Turkistan (1988,) a travel memoir.
