Steven Clare LaTourette (1954–2016) was an American politician and attorney best known for serving as a U.S. Representative from Ohio (1995–2013.) A Republican, he was recognized for his bipartisan approach to governance.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, LaTourette earned a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan (1976) and a J.D. from Cleveland State University (1980.) He worked as a public defender before becoming Lake County Prosecutor (1989–95,) gaining national attention for prosecuting the Kirtland cult murders.
Elected to Congress in 1994, he represented Ohio’s 19th and later 14th congressional districts. On the House Appropriations Committee, he championed transportation, infrastructure, and environmental policies. He co-authored the Financial Data Protection Act (2006) to strengthen consumer privacy laws. After retiring in 2013, he co-founded a government relations firm, advising on policy and legislative strategy.
