Stephen Landesberg (1936–2010) was an American actor, comedian, and writer best known as Detective Arthur P. Dietrich on Barney Miller (1975–82.) His dry wit and deadpan delivery made him a standout, earning three Primetime Emmy nominations.
Born in the Bronx, New York, Landesberg began as a stand-up comedian in the late 1960s, performing alongside Freddie Prinze and Jimmie Walker. He frequently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, gaining recognition for sharp humor and celebrity impersonations.
Beyond Barney Miller, he appeared in The Rockford Files, The Golden Girls, Law & Order, That ’70s Show, and Everybody Hates Chris. His film roles included Wild Hogs (2007) and Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008.)
