Stanislas de Boufflers (1738–1815) was a French poet and military officer . Known for his contributions to French literature, Boufflers belonged to the literary circle that included figures like Voltaire and Denis Diderot during the Enlightenment.

Born in Nancy, France, Boufflers began his military career and rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a Brigadier General. Despite his military responsibilities, he maintained a deep interest in literature and the arts. His poetic works reflected the spirit of his time, combining the elegance of the 18th-century French poetic tradition with his own distinctive style.

In 1776, Boufflers published Ode à la Liberté, an ode celebrating the ideas of liberty and equality that were gaining prominence during the Enlightenment. His literary output also included plays, such as Astrée (1776,) showcasing his versatility as a writer.

As a member of the French nobility, Boufflers faced challenges during the revolutionary period. He immigrated to Germany to escape political turmoil but returned to France later in 1800, with Napoleon’s rise to power, Boufflers returned to Paris and supervised the edition of his complete works (1803.)
