Inspirational Quotes by Rufus Wheelwright Clark (American Pastor)

Rufus Wheelwright Clark (1813–86) was an American pastor and author. He gained recognition as an exceptional pulpit orator and prolific writer, with a body of work comprising 130 books, pamphlets, reviews, articles, and twelve volumes of Sunday School textbooks.

Born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, Clark relocated to New York City at a young age. He began working as a clerk in a mercantile house. However, driven by his passion for becoming a pastor, he pursued his education at Yale, graduating in 1838. He furthered his studies at the Andover Theological Seminary and the Yale Divinity School.

In 1842, Clark was ordained and assumed the role of pastor at the Second Presbyterian Church in Washington, D. C. He served as a pastor at several churches, including the North (Congregational) Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, the Maverick (Congregational) Church in East Boston, Massachusetts, the South Congregational Church in Brooklyn, New York, and the First Reformed Church in Albany, New York.

Clark gained widespread recognition as a pastor, primarily due to his question books for Sunday schools and numerous contributions to religious literature. One of his notable publications was Heroes of Albany (8 vols., 1866,) which he wrote to honor the sacrifices made during the American Civil War. Additionally, he authored Romanism in America (1855.) In 1862, the University of the City of New York bestowed him with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree.
