Robert Selden Duvall (b.1931) is an American actor, director, and producer known for his versatile performances and contributions to Hollywood. His seven-decade career has cemented his status as one of the greatest actors.
Born in San Diego, California, he studied drama at Principia College and trained at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre under Sanford Meisner. He made his film début as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962,) earning early recognition.
Duvall’s career includes iconic roles in The Godfather (1972,) Apocalypse Now (1979,) The Great Santini (1979,) and The Apostle (1997,) which he also directed. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for Tender Mercies (1983.)
