Rita Moreno (b.1931,) born Rosa Dolores Alverío Marcano, is a Puerto Rican-American actress, singer, and dancer celebrated for her groundbreaking career and historic achievements across film, television, and theater.

Born in Humacao, Puerto Rico, she moved to New York City at five. She began acting in the 1940s, making her Broadway début at 13 before transitioning to Hollywood. Her breakthrough came in West Side Story (1961) as Anita, earning her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress—the first Hispanic woman to win an Oscar.

Moreno is among the few performers to achieve EGOT status, winning an Emmy (1977, 1978,) Grammy (1972,) Oscar (1962,) and Tony (1975.) She starred in The Electric Company (1971–77,) Oz (1997–2003,) and One Day at a Time (2017–20,) showcasing her versatility.

Her autobiography, Rita Moreno: A Memoir (2013,) details her life and career. She was also the subject of Rita Moreno: Just a Girl Who Decided to Go for It (2021,) a documentary on her impact on entertainment and representation.
