Raymond Charles Barker (1911–88) was an American minister, author, and lecturer known for his teachings on positive thinking, prosperity, and spiritual healing. A key figure in the New Thought movement, he was particularly influential in Religious Science.
Born in Rochester, New York, Barker was introduced to New Thought through his parents’ involvement with the Unity Church. He trained at the Unity Training School and later ministered at the Church of Universal Truth in Toledo, Ohio. In 1946, he founded the First Church of Religious Science in Manhattan, a major center for New Thought teachings. He served as President of the International New Thought Alliance (1943–46) and Religious Science International (1954–57,) shaping the movement’s growth. His influence extended to future leaders like Louise Hay and Stuart Grayson.
A prolific writer, Barker authored several influential works on spiritual principles and personal development. His books include Treat Yourself to Life (1954,) The Power of Decision (1941,) The Science of Successful Living (1957,) Money is God in Action (1986,) and Spiritual Healing for Today (1988.) His teachings emphasized mental clarity, prosperity consciousness, and the transformative power of thought.
