William Ramsey Clark (1927–2021) was an American lawyer, civil rights activist, and politician. He served as U.S. attorney general under President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Born in Dallas, Texas, Clark was the son of Tom C. Clark, who served as attorney general under President Harry S. Truman and later became an associate Supreme Court Justice. Ramsey Clark pursued his education at the University of Texas-Austin, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (1949.) He then attended the University of Chicago, earning a Master of Arts in American history (1950) and a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School (1951.)

Clark began his career as a lawyer in New York City. In the 1960s, he became known for his work in civil rights cases, including defending Freedom Riders and other activists. He later served as the United States Attorney General under Lyndon B. Johnson 1967–69. During that time, he was crucial in advocating for civil rights and opposing the Vietnam War.

Clark’s works include Crime in America (1970) and In The Fire This Time: U.S. War Crimes in the Gulf (1992.)
