Phillip Adams (b.1939,) fully Phillip Andrew Hedley Adams, is an Australian broadcaster, filmmaker, author, archaeologist, controversialist, social commentator, and satirist. He is widely regarded as one of the most exceptional broadcasters in Australian history, thanks partly to his role as the host of Late Night Live on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC.) Over the years, Adams has interviewed over 15,000 of the world’s most prominent politicians, philosophers, economists, scientists, theologians, historians, archaeologists, novelists, and scholars through the program. He is also a regular columnist for The Weekend Australian.

Born in Maryborough, Victoria, Adams completed his education at Melbourne High School before beginning his career in journalism as a cadet reporter for The News in Adelaide. He went on to work for several other newspapers, including The Australian and The Age, before transitioning to radio and television.

Adams has hosted several programs over the years, including Late Night Live on ABC Radio National, which he has presented since 1991. He has also regularly contributed to various media outlets, including The Sydney Morning Herald, and The Guardian. His films as a successful advertising executive and film producer include The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972,) The Getting of Wisdom (1978,) Lonely Hearts (1982,) and We of the Never Never (1982.) Adams’ Australia (1988) was part of BBC TV’s contribution to Australia’s bicentennial celebrations.

Adams is also a passionate advocate for various social and environmental causes. He has been involved in numerous organizations, including the Australian Conservation Foundation, Greenpeace, and the Australian Skeptics.
