Inspirational Quotes by Phil Crane (American Politician)

Phil Crane (1930–2014,) fully Philip Miller Crane, was an American politician, historian, and author who served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives (1969–2005,) representing Illinois. At his 2004 defeat, he was the longest-serving Republican in the House.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, he attended Hillsdale College, DePauw University, and the University of Michigan before earning a PhD in history from Indiana University Bloomington (1961.) He taught at Indiana University and Bradley University before entering politics.

A staunch conservative, Crane advocated limited government, free-market policies, and strong national defense. He was a key figure in the Republican Study Committee and helped shape Ronald Reagan’s conservative movement.

His books include The Sum of Good Government (1972,) Surrender in Panama (1978,) and A Democrat’s Dilemma: The Case Against Unions (1982.)
