Olivia Wilde (b.1984,) born Olivia Jane Cockburn, is an American actress, director, and producer known for her versatility in film and television and her bold storytelling with feminist themes.
Born in New York City, she grew up in a family of journalists and writers. She studied at the Gaiety School of Acting in Dublin, adopting the surname “Wilde” in homage to Oscar Wilde.
Wilde gained prominence as Dr. Remy “Thirteen” Hadley in House (2007–12.) She starred in Tron: Legacy (2010,) Cowboys & Aliens (2011,) Her (2013,) Rush (2013,) and Richard Jewell (2019.) She made her Broadway début in 1984 (2017.)
Her directorial début, Booksmart (2019,) won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature. She followed with Don’t Worry Darling (2022,) a psychological thriller starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
