Mike Krzyzewski (b.1947,) fully Michael William Krzyzewski, is an American basketball coach, widely regarded as one of the greatest in college basketball history. Known as “Coach K,” he led Duke University (1980–2022,) securing five NCAA championships and 13 Final Four appearances.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, he played at the United States Military Academy (Army) under Bob Knight. After serving in the U.S. Army, he transitioned to coaching, first at Army (1975–80) before transforming Duke into a powerhouse. He earned numerous coaching awards, including three Naismith College Coach of the Year honors.
Krzyzewski also coached the U.S. national team, winning gold at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympics. His philosophy emphasizes teamwork, discipline, and leadership, shaping generations of players.
