Mike Honda (b.1941,) fully Michael Makoto Honda, is an American politician and educator, best known for serving in the U.S. House of Representatives (2001–17.) A Democratic Party member, he represented California’s 15th and 17th districts, advocating for education, civil rights, and technology policy.

Born in Walnut Grove, California, Honda and his family were interned at Camp Amache during World War II due to their Japanese-American heritage. After returning, he attended San Jose State University, earning a B.A. in biological sciences (1968) and an M.A. in education (1974.) He later served in the Peace Corps in El Salvador (1965–67) before becoming a teacher and principal.

Honda entered politics in 1971, serving on the San Jose Planning Commission, later becoming a Santa Clara County Supervisor (1990–96) and a California State Assembly member (1997–2000.) Elected to Congress in 2001, he championed immigration reform, STEM education, and LGBTQ+ rights. He also served as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee (2005–13.)
