Michel de Saint Pierre (1916–87,) born Michel de Grosourdy de Saint-Pierre, was a French writer, journalist, and political activist known for his historical novels, Catholic traditionalist views, and literary contributions. His works explored aristocracy, faith, and social change.
Born in Blois, France, he came from a Norman noble family. He studied at Saint-Jean-Hulst and the Faculty of Letters in Paris before working in journalism and publishing. During World War II, he joined the French Resistance, earning the Legion of Honor.
Saint Pierre’s literary career gained prominence with Les Aristocrates (1954,) a satirical novel about French nobility, followed by Les Nouveaux Aristocrates (1961,) which continued the theme of tradition versus modernity. His novel Les Nouveaux Prêtres (1964) examined changes in the Catholic clergy. Other notable works include La Mer à Boire (1951,) Bernadette et Lourdes (1952,) and Le Drame des Romanov (1967,) which explored historical events.
Beyond literature, Saint Pierre was active in Catholic conservative movements, advocating traditional values and religious preservation.
